Weekly Tip

#30-Advocating for More Science Awareness

Become a part of the CASE Social Media Campaign

As a life member of the California Association of Science Educators, I try to stay connected an involved with my professional organization. I continue to attend annual conferences for professional growth. I volunteer my time on the Legislative Oversight Committee to share my perspectives as it relates to state legislation. As a CSU university supervisor, I encourage my student teachers to see the value-added benefits of becoming a member of CASE. Now I have an opportunity to share with you, via this weekly tip, an opportunity for each of us to make a difference in science education.

On Thursday, May 13th, CASE kick-started an ambitious social media campaign for the science education community. The goal of this campaign is to raise awareness for the importance of science education in our state, and hopefully a domino-affect nationwide. This campaign consists of a series of social media posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram over the next 4 weeks. It consists of seven messages highlighting why science education is essential in K-12 classrooms.

With Governor Newsom’s May budget revision proposal approaching, it is imperative we spread awareness throughout California. To do this, CASE needs your help. Below is a document link containing messages and graphics, as well as planned dates and times for each post of the campaign. CASE simply asks that you pass this along to your own social media followers and share them on your organization’s and personal social media pages.

CALIFORNIA SCIENCE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN – SCHEDULE

As a Past President of CASE, I appreciate your commitment to quality science education. I ask that you support CASE in their efforts. Collectively let’s change the paradigm of thinking held by so many politicians and citizens that may not understand the vital role science plays in our lives. Let’s all do our part to promote a scientifically literate citizenry!

For questions about the schedule or graphics, please contact Communications and Marketing Coordinator Jana Reyes at jana@cascience.org.

Please share this weekly tip with a colleague.

Stay healthy and safe. Dean
